The Canucks came back from a 2-0 Deficit to defeat the visiting New York Rangers 3-2 in a stunning overtime thriller
If you are one of those Canucks fans that decided to turn the game off when it was 2-0 Rangers going into the third, do i have news for you ..
The Vancouver Canucks take it 3-2 in Overtime over the New York Rangers. And that third period is one you definitely did not want to miss.
The New York Rangers came roaring into Vancouver 6-2-1 to start the season, looking for their 6th road win in a row. While the Vancouver Canucks were still desperately looking for their first home win.
The Canucks needed to find a way to beat the surging Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin. In his previous seven starts, the Russian stopper had a 1.70 goals-against average and .947 saves percentage.
As well, Vancouver was looking to avoid surrendering the opening goal for the 8th time in 10 games so far this season.
The New York Rangers opened the scoring at 2:33 into the second period on the powerplay. A beautiful pass from Artemi Panarin over to Mika Zibanejad, he now has his second goal of the season.
1-0 Rangers
J.T. Miller is clearly distraught after the Canucks went down 1-0 early in the period to his former team.
Indeed. Canucks fans were snoozing early on this game.
Artemi Panarin scores at 13:13 in the second period. Adam Fox got the pass over to Panarin to tally his 100th career NHL point. A very impressive milestone for the young Norris trophy winning defenseman. 2-0 Rangers
Look away Canucks fans
Hey look, we can still score !
J.T. Miller got the first Canucks goal of the game at 1:29 in the third period. The Canucks deficit is now cut in half on a beautiful deflection by Miller from Conor Garland's pass.
2-1 Rangers
Vasily Podkolzin scored this absolute beauty of a snap shot on a pass from none other than the angry little elf himself, Conor Garland! Podkolzin has his second goal of the season.
Its all tied up 2-2
Conor Garland now has his third multi point game of the season, not too shabby for the new Canuck.
Now, with the game tied 2-2. The Vancouver Canucks took two late game penalties to give the New York Rangers a late two man advantage for 35 seconds.
Nils Hoglander's parents didn't seem too pleased to see their son get penalized. They were in attendance watching their son play in the NHL for the first time.
The Thatcher Snatcher
Now, the Vancouver Canucks came crawling back to tie the game 2-2. But after giving up a late 5-on-3 Advantage, and Demko losing his stick & Blocker, surely all hope was lost, right?
Watch for yourself as Demko puts on an absolute clinic to keep it a tie game.
Absolutely brilliant goaltending from the legend himself. If this doesn't legitimately make it into the goal of the year conversation, then nothing will. He even earned himself quite an ovation from the crowd that had been silent for a good chunk of the game.
Hockey fans are blowing up twitter over the remarkable stretch of play by the phenomenal goaltender.
The Overtime heroics
J.T. Miller staples the incredible game-winning goal at 2:22 into OT to send the New York Rangers home defeated 3-2. It was a massive statement game for J.T. Miller who had 2 goals against his former team.
The Vancouver Canucks improve to
1-3-0 at home and 4-5-1 on the season as they bounce back from a deficit late in the game yet again. The Canucks outshot the Rangers 36-25 .
Despite winning, Vancouver can't seem to get their power play on track. The Canucks were 0/6 on the power play while The Rangers went 2/5 on the power play.
My 3 stars of the game :
1st: Thatcher Demko - 23/25 Saves .920 SV%
2nd: J.T. Miller - 2 Goals, GWG
3rd: Artemi Panarin - 1 Goal, 1 Assist
The Canucks get back to action on Friday Night when they host the Nashville Predators at Rogers arena. That will be another game you wont want to miss, we will see you then Canuck's fans.
