"i'm not gonna lie, it's been a few frustrating years individually."
John Klingberg of the Dallas Stars has reportedly requested a trade from the Dallas Stars, as reported by multiple sources.
at 29-years-old, Klingberg has 17 points in 26 games this season so far. It has been a tough year for Klingberg and the Dallas Stars, who currently sit in sixth place in the Central division with a 17-12-2 record.
Jeff Marek of Sportsnet has reported that Klingberg is looking for an eight year contract valued between $62M and $66M. That is when contract negotiations fell apart and the trade was requested.
“Klingberg has asked for a trade out of Dallas, as per my sources – a request that did not occur recently, presumably it was made when contract negotiations fell apart." - Dave Pagnotta of 'the fourth period'
Today, Klingberg spoke with the media regarding the alleged trade request.
One of the possible trade destinations for Klingberg appears to be the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have several big ticket players becoming UFA's at the end of the 2021-22 season, such as Nino Niederreiter and Vincent Trocheck who combined clear up $10M in cap space if they don't re-sign with Carolina.
A few other teams have listed interest and have contacted the Dallas Star, reported by Marek.
Klingberg has been extraordinary throughout his NHL career, posting 344 points in 504 games in 8 seasons with the Dallas Stars. His best performance, however, was during the 2017-18 season when he took the NHL by storm when he put up 67 points in 82 games.
