Calgary Flames sign goaltender to Amateur Tryout Agreement, Markstrom out with illness

The Calgary Flames have signed an Emergency Backup goaltender to an Amateur tryout agreement, the team announced late Monday.

While Jacob Markstrom sits out of Monday's game against the Golden knights due to the flu, the Flames have signed Dustin Nickel to an Amateur Tryout agreement, and he will back up Dan Vladar.

Markstrom was confirmed sick after the 5PM MT roster deadline, meaning AHL goaltender Dustin Wolf could not be called up.

Nickel, 32, is a native of Calgary who played two seasons with the Calgary Canucks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League between 2009-2011.
