Jared Spurgeon is set to undergo season-ending surgery on his hip & back, the Wild announced on Thursday afternoon.
The 34-year-old has 0 goals, 5 points in 16 games with the Wild this season.
Minnesota will gain roughly $7.575M for the season if they place him on LTIR (Long-Term Injury Reserve), and it's now anticipated that they will pursue a defenseman on the trade market prior to the March 8 deadline.
The Wild, at 18-20-5, currently sit seventh in the Central division.
