Patrick Kane refuses to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

Patrick Kane trade rumors have certainly been the talk of the summer for NHL fans. Several teams had been listed as potential destinations for the superstar back in August.

Those teams included the Maple Leafs, Sabres, Oilers and Rangers.

However, Kevin Weekes of ESPN has recently reported that there is officially one team that Patrick Kane absolutely refuses to play for.

That team is now confirmed as the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Kane informed the Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson that he will absolutely not play for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"Patrick Kane has stated several times that he does not want to be a Leaf, and that he wants to go to a team that he feels actually has a chance at the Stanley Cup." Weekes said on ESPN radio last week.

The 33-year-old's 8-year, $84 million contract ends following the upcoming 2022-23 season.

Kane had 26 goals, 66 assists for a total of 92 points for the Blackhawks last season, and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. He will be a huge asset for any team looking to make a run at the Stanley Cup.

To make room for Kane, the Leaf's likely would've had to clear up space by offloading some young talented players such as Rasmus Sandin or William Nylander, a move which would've definitely upset some Leaf's fans.
