Red Wings place Jakub Vrana on waivers

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

As reported by Elliotte Friedman, the Detroit Red Wings have placed Jakub Vrana on waivers.

Vrana is in his second year of a three-year, $15,750,000 contract which earns him an annual average salary (AAV) of $5,250,000.

The 26-year-old Left-Winger has been a very consistent player while he manages to stay healthy.

Over his 8 seasons in the NHL, he has managed to put up 189 points in 323 career games. He has failed to play a full season since 2018-19.

His stats have been so good, hockey fans alike are in disbelief that the Red Wings could put such a player on waivers.

Vrana, 26, has not played in an NHL game since October 15 when he put up two points (1 goal, 1 assist) against the New Jersey Devils. Since then he has been enrolled in the player assistance program.

Much like when Jack Eichel got injured in Buffalo, Vrana would be a worthy gamble for a team to take on. As if he returns to full mental health, he will immediately make an impact in any teams top-6.
