Report: Ducks severely undervalue Zegras on potential next contract. Sabres eyeing the star

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

Zegras is known as one of the better players on the Anaheim Ducks, and one of the most skilled players in the league.

The 22-year-old is due for a new contract prior to the beginning of the 2023-24 season, and the Ducks have not been very friendly to arguably their best player.

We now know what the Anaheim Ducks were offering the young forward, and it certainly is a lowball offer compared to other players with a similar skillset from the same draft year.

Ducks offer Zegras between $3-4M AAV

According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA sports, the Anaheim Ducks have extended an offer to Zegras in the $3-4 Million AAV range, despite having nearly $26 Million in cap space.

We also now know which team is leading the pack at acquiring the all-star forward.

Sabres attempt to acquire Zegras

According to multiple sources, the frontrunner to acquire Zegras is currently the Buffalo Sabres, if the Ducks and Trevor were unable to meet an agreement in the coming weeks.

Buffalo is keeping a close eye on the situation in Anaheim, and may pull the trigger if nothing gets done as training camp gets underway.

Zegras had 23 Goals and 65 Points in 81 games during the 2022-23 season, and has 49 goals and 139 Points in 180 career games thus far.

Buffalo is looking to make a return to the playoffs for the first time in 12 years, and adding some elite offensive talent like Zegras could be the way to ensure this happens.
