The Maple Leaf's found themselves losing on Saturday night after surrendering a 3-0 lead, and people have been quick to write this Leafs team off as a direct result of this game. Including some big name analysts working in the media.
At 21-11-8, Toronto currently sits third in the Atlantic division. The concern is not their record, its their inability to close out games when they grab a lead. They're unable to close out games in 60 minutes, and this has been a massive problem for this team all year.
Now, one of TSN's top analysts has some harsh words for this Leaf's team following their most recent defeat.
Craig Button criticizes the Leafs
"The Toronto Maple Leafs are what they are. You know what they are? Not a Stanley Cup contender" said Button following the loss to Colorado.
"You know what this is? This is the DNA of the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is what they are" he adds. "You know they lost five games in a row prior to the calendar turning to 2024, four of those losses were to three teams at the lower part of the standings. Oh so you beat the San Jose Sharks back to back, wow isn't that great."

Button also took notice that the issue revolving around the Leaf's is not their core-four, it's the players surrounding their superstars that are not helping out enough.
They're relying too heavily on guys such as Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi, yet receiving little production from them.
The Leaf's need to figure out how to hold onto a lead if they want to stand a chance in the postseason, it's plain and simple. This is not their first 3-goal lead to be blown in the 2023-24 campaign, and it won't be their last.
